Welcome To Evies Journey

Evie Herbert is two and a half years old and lives near Basingstoke in the UK with her parents Gareth and Stephanie and her big sister Nyah.
Our website shows the journey of our beautiful little girl and the challenges she faces every day. Evie was born 11 weeks premature weighing 3Ibs 4 oz at Taunton neonatal intensive care unit and spent the first 6 weeks of her life in an incubator. Evie was diagnosed with quadriplegia cerebral palsy at 11 months old.
Since learning of her diagnosis, we began researching ways of possible treatment and therapy to allow Evie to reach her maximum potential and have as much independence in the future.
After many months of investigation, we have decided for Evie to undergo SDR surgery. At present this type of surgery is only available in St Louis, Missouri in Amercia and undertaken by Dr T. S. Parks and his team. The surgery is known as selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR) and has undergone more thorough scientific scrutiny than any other procedure currently performed on patients with cerebral palsy. We have spoken to families in similar situations who have also made the same decision and believe this will help our daughter in the future.
Evie has been accepted for the operation and through family, friends and many fund raising initiatives we are looking to raise £50,000 by March 2011.
Great news - after a fantastic weekend at the Valentines Ball and a number of other recent donations we are now on target to reach £50,000 by next month. Any additional money raised will be used towards Evie's post op care, therapy, annual consultation with Dr T.S. Park and consequential treatment/operations and equipment necessary to aid Evie's development.
Thank you so much to everyone for your support.
